Swiss Ultra Cycling Challenge 2024
2nd place after 902km and 11’300m of elevation in 48 hours.
After a win in 2023, I came to the SUCH24 determined to defend that title. Preparation for the race was all over the place, but I was confident I had a solid plan that should allow me to compete. It all started well, but problems arose after a nasty cut in the sidewall of my tire after attempting to ride a hike-a-bike section. No excuse there. It was my bad and the result of bad decisions. I managed to get things fixed, but continues on my track of making bad decisions. That tire would come back to haunt me during the following night, which by the way was a mserable cold and rainy night. Oh I should have changed that tire when I could. I ended up having to ride the night out riding a flat tyre, stopping every 10 minutes to hand pump it up. The time losses were creazy, and I considered quitting on more than one occasion. For some unknown reason, I continued, but my head was not in it, like I had lost my usual discipline. In the end, I somehow still ended up second. Not the result I came for, but oh I love this event and its people so much.
